STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS
A Celebration of
Our Latino Pride with
an Eye on the Future
For ten years, Dr. Cruz taught
at several colleges and universities, all of them
with a high percentage of Latino students. Since
then, he has toured the country bringing a positive
message about the great contributions Latinos
have made, and challenging his audiences to write
their own success stories.
Latinos are now the second largest
majority in the United States. Based on purchasing
power, the U.S. Hispanic market would be the ninth
largest economy in the world. Hispanics have contributed
to the culture, business life, economy, politics
and overall fabric of this country. Around two
million businesses in the U.S. are owned by Latinos;
an increasing number of Latino professionals lead
some of the most important corporations; great
accomplishments in the arts and music, and an
ever growing political participation evidence
the great love and commitment Latinos feel for
their country.
All of these accomplishments
are beginning to substitute the negative stereotypes
of past days. This seminar not only celebrates
such achievements, but brings to the forefront
some of the most inspiring success stories. Hispanics
also face many challenges, particularly in education.
Reducing the educational achievement gap is still
one of the more pressing concerns for this community.
Dr. Cruz challenges students to build their own
success story and achieve their American Dream,
so that they too can become role models to future
generations of Americans.
Skills imparted include:
- Accept 100% of the responsibility for your
success
- Celebrating our past and embracing our future
- It all begins with a dream and your commitment
- Challenges and responsibilities of a successful
role model
- Building a successful path that others can
follow
- Five steps to reach your American Dream
