Dr. Cruz is an educator at heart. The oldest
son of schoolteachers from a modest home in Latin
America, he came to the U.S. in search of his
American Dream made it come true and now motivates
others to follow their dreams. Enrolling in college
even though he did not yet speak English, he became
a scientist earning a B.S. in Chemistry, a master
in Science and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry
from Seton Hall University, and then followed
in his parents’ footsteps by becoming a
teacher. He spent almost a decade as a university
professor and he is now fully dedicated to teaching
others to transform their dreams into reality.
He has been a professor of thermodynamics, quantum
physics, chemistry and mathematics at several
colleges and universities in the U.S., where he
has always represented the interests of Latino
students and faculty alike. His experience as
a professor and counselor led him to understand
that a major factor in desertion rates is a lack
of a clear strategic plan that will allow students
to create and maintain a high level of motivation
and a clear vision of their short and long-term
goals.
Dr. Cruz challenges students to accept 100% of
the responsibility for their success. His message
is loud and clear: We are the architects of our
own destiny. The power and enthusiasm of Dr. Cruz’
presentations are simply a reflection of his own
success story. As he writes in his book, In Search
of the American Dream, he arrived in the United
States in 1980, with no knowledge of the language,
and with no more credentials than a high school
diploma, a few hundred dollars and a bag full
of dreams.
He understands the needs and challenges of today’s
students as he put himself through college, learning
a new language and juggling school and work. He
has gone on to build several successful businesses
and continue teaching through his more than twenty
books and the numerous seminars he offers each
year.
